This is a prequel to the 2008 film Death Race, which was the remake of a 1975 exploitation flick. It all starts with a failed bank robbery. The protagonist, one of the robbers, ends up in a futuristic prison that pays its bills by making its prisoners fight and by turning violence into a profitable TV show. The only thing the warden cares about is market shares. Then, someone has a great idea...
The second half of the film is what Death Race was all about, which basically gives Death Race 2 more variety when it comes to its plot. Most will agree; for this reason alone, this prequel is a tad more interesting and definitely less repetitive than its predecessor. They replaced Jason Statham by another bald guy and brought back some actors. Excellent!
Stellar photography, exciting fight choreographies, breath-taking stunts, ingenious turns and twists; Death Race 2 will have you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. It has a bunch of sexy women and plenty of male nudity, including a shirtless Danny Trejo. Like the previous film, this looks and feels like the adaptation of an action packed video game.
