Serial Killer Film
A snow job...
Cold Prey 3 is in fact the prequel of Cold Prey 1 and 2. The villain is considered dead after the ending of Part 2, so there was nowhere else to go with this franchise unless the writers gave him supernatural powers, which thankfully they didn’t. Sadly, the new writers couldn’t do miracles. If anything, Cold Prey 3 is closer to Friday the 13th than previous installments have been.
Since this film doesn’t take place in the snow, we can finally enjoy gratuitous skinny dipping. The previous writers weren’t big on nudity, but considering this is a quintessential slasher, it’s almost a necessity. It’s not like the villain is interesting or wears a cool costume, after all, so we need a diversion. We basically have a bad guy with no defining characteristics. What a poor design!
The actors are good enough. The directing is decent. No single aspect of this production stands out. A late investigation attempts to give more depth to this movie than it deserves. This film is hard to sit through for many reasons and one of them is that it takes itself way too seriously for what it has to offer. It would work better as a comedy. You’ve seen this movie a thousand times before...
