Horror movies of a certain type and grade released since the turn of the millennium, and featuring a certain caliber of scream queens, have been produced massively. They’re gory, sexy, they have a low budget, they are clumsily written and shot, but they’re surely worth checking out. She Wolf Rising, as the title indicates, isn’t going to win an Oscar, but that doesn’t make it bad.
This story appears to have started way before the opening credits. It almost feels like the sequel to a film that obviously doesn’t exist. Tiffany Shepis is definitely one of the best and most malleable screen queens of her generation. This is a horror movie inside a horror movie; about Tiffany Shepis playing herself but with a different name. Yeah, this meta stuff is hard to keep up with.
What’s easy to understand, on the other hand, are strippers and lesbians. Oh, and viscera! There’s plenty of that. These are She Wolf Rising’s best assets, in fact. Some of the story is narrated and the back and forth can be confusing. The film got butchered in the editing room. The compositing and audio enhancements are just too much. This kind of polish never works.
