This is Full Moon Entertainment’s version of Tron. It contains poor 3D effects that aren’t scary. Horror films about video games and virtual reality rarely turn out well. They don’t age well either, because technology never evolves the way we imagine. If you look passed the bad CG and the far-fetched discussions about artificial intelligence, you might just have a good time.
The dialogue is so childish you can finish the character’s sentences for them. A lot of this film was shot on green screens. The creators are not even trying to conceal their mistakes. Aside some gory moments and coarse language, Arcade is somewhat accessible to younger audiences who don’t mind deprecated technology. It’s colorful, fun, it’s a science-fiction adventure and the cast is young.
All things considered, this movie was probably more fun to make than it is to watch. It is screenwriter David S. Goyer little sandbox. It was probably amazing on paper, but the execution is embarrassing. Charles Band has come up with better concepts before. Without a big budget, this kind of film simply can’t look good. CG takes time to polish and this is what you get when you can’t afford it.
