Thriller is, in a nutshell, one of the best music videos ever made. Every second of it is pure gold. It stars Michael Jackson at the peak of his career, one of the best singer and dancer the world has known. What more can you ask for? This video more or less contains two intertwining stories: one about a werewolf and one with revenants. The latter is a musical.
The werewolf transformation scene is very similar to the one in An American Werewolf in London. Both pictures were written and directed by John Landis, and Rick Baker made both sets of make-up and effects. The werewolf scene is one of the scariest moments in the history of motion pictures. It doesn’t matter how many times you watch it, you never feel safe.
The "Thriller" song actually starts four minutes in. Jackson warms us up and teases us, constantly delaying the chorus. This is not the version of the song found on the Thriller music album. It’s a special mix made to optimize tension. It all culminates to horror legend Vincent Price rapping and a group choreography by revenants that would become iconic in pop culture around the world.
