Not so legendary...
This is a werewolf movie that’s everything but typical. It’s about a boy growing up among circus freaks more or less against his will. During its middle part, the film gets really boring and Peter Cushing, who’s known for better films, can’t do anything about it. He lets his voice hypnotize us. The truth is his character isn’t all that interesting. Unfortunately, the movie is painfully slow.
Legend of the Werewolf wouldn’t be the same if the story didn’t somehow connect a brothel to the main procedural. But, don’t get your hopes high. Nothing out of the ordinary and too sexy goes on in there. All you get is lingerie. Indeed, the film holds back when it comes to shocking and titillating the audience. It is monotone and it is extremely low-key.
The werewolf looks okay. The make-up isn’t ground-breaking. The effects are humble. The is no transformation scene. We should focus on the story instead but the amount of filler makes the film hard to watch. This is a period piece and like most period pieces of its era, it is very convincing. Unless you want to watch every werewolf flicks out there, you might want to skip this one.
